One of the paintings i made for Halloween. When it comes to paint, I'm trying to get away from doing realistic paintings so i can start learning how to paint things on my own, using only what comes to mind, instead of always using a reference.
I first started out with this. It's based on a book i read when i was little, called Jenny Reen and the Jack Muh Lantern. It's about a lil girl, Jenny, that goes off into the woods on Halloween to run an errand for her sister, but she's warned to stay on the path cuz a creature called the Jack Muh Lantern will be wondering the woods, looking for any lost souls with its lantern. However, Jenny wonders off when she sees some flowers, n gets lost, n sure enough she runs into "Jack". It's ends on a good note, but the Jack Muh Lantern gave me nightmares, n its image stayed with me all these years, even after i had forgotten the title of the book >.>
Because i didn't remember much of what the characters looked like, i tried painting what i remembered, n this is what came out. By the time i actually read the book again (my sister found it on Amazon n ordered it), i was suprised on how close i was to getting "Jack" right. Blue robe, orange, pointed teeth, n i even got the hair right, n of course there's the lantern it always carries around Only differences is that the head is a different shape n "Jack" isn't suppose to be so tall. Jenny came out WAY different than she does in the book, though :I I only got the red jacket n pig tails right, but in the book they're in a different style.
Let me know what u guys think n Happy Halloween everyone
This is so good! It looks fantastic. Great job with all the details, I absolutely love how you've got it set in a dark area with just the one light. You pulled off the darkness really well! I really like this
